As a museum solely dedicated to ceramic art, The Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art is intended to be a distinctive institution capable of surveying new trends in ceramic art, with an international and contemporary spirit.
The Museum Collection:
1. Japanese Contemporary Ceramic Art
The collection includes works that show fresh creativity and inventiveness in plasticity, selected from the heritage during and after the modern era.
The Museum Collection presents an overview of the development of contemporary Japanese ceramic art.
2. Non-Japanese Contemporary Ceramic Art
The collection also encompasses non-Japanese works which merit international acclaim,
giving visitors the opportunity to glimpse the full range of contemporary ceramics.
The initial focus is on American and European works which reflect the rapid development of ceramic art since 1945.
3. Works from the Local Ceramic Scene
The Museum also collects outstanding pieces of ceramic art created in shiga Prefecture, and related materials including old shigaraki ware which highlight the history of ceramics in the prefecture.
4. Craft and Ceramic Design
The Museum collects outstanding pieces of craft from Japan and from oversea. Our aim is to collect high quality table-wares, flower vases, an exterior, which can stimulate the development of the ceramic design.

Regular Exhibitions: Contemporary ceramic works from Japan and abroad.
Special Exhibitions: Occasional displays of materials related to ceramics.
